Welcome

Institute of Smart Structures and Systems (ISSS) is registered as a technical society on 1 September 1998 under the Government of Karnataka to promote the Science and Technology of Smart materials and  systems, MEMS and related areas. ISSS organizes triennial International Conferences and annual National Conferences, which are the major events providing the platform for dissemination of knowledge and information amongst the practitioners of Smart and Micro systems technology. ISSS also conducts training workshops for teachers of engineering education institutions across the country.

It has been more than fifteen years since ISSS started the series of triennial International Conference on Smart Materials Structures and Systems, during which there has been a spurt of activity in the area of Smart Structures in general and MEMS in particular. These years have seen volumes of research on different aspects of MEMS, smart materials, structures and systems. These include development of new actuator and sensor materials, smart and nano materials, constitutive modeling, newer methods of analysis, device design and fabrication, electronics and packaging, smart structural design for optimum power and performance, development of control algorithms, and finally, applications. Several facilities to fabricate devices have also been established in India. In recent years, the National Programme on Micro and Smart Systems has facilitated product oriented research in many areas of interest to ISSS.  The progress in the above areas has been covered in innumerable forums all over the world, including the previous six International conferences of ISSS. The evolution and maturing of these technologies are clearly seen over the years. The present conference, which is the seventh in the series (including the first conference held in 1996 before the formation of ISSS), continues this evolutionary thread and aims to provide a forum to academicians, researchers and technologists to not only assess the current status in these technologies but also to steer towards a more effective utilization of these technologies by exploiting the strengths, recognizing and filling the gaps, and building bridges across disciplines hitherto considered as disjointed.

The present conference is jointly organized by ISSS and Indian Institute of Science (IISc).  Central Manufacturing Technology Institute (CMTI Bangalore) and MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology (MSRIT Bangalore) are co-organizers of this event, to be held at the National Science Seminar Complex, IISc Bangalore.

Structure of the Conference

The conference will have several Plenary and Invited talks on contemporary areas. In addition, there will be Pre-conference Workshops  and a Special Seminar on Agriculture.

Full Technical Program of the Conference is now available

Other Special sessions include one for presentation of ISSS annual award/felicitation (await details)

Previous Conferences

The previous conferences in this series were highly successful events.  Over 400 delegates participated in the previous events held in Bangalore by ISSS in association with Indian Institute of Science and R& Organizations such as Indian Space Research Organization, National Aerospace Laboratories, Aeronautical Development Agency. Archival web pages of the last conference is available here.
